Sustainable Eco Resort in Lombok | Lombok Private Villa Estate
There’s something truly enchanting about the gentle hum of bees drifting through tropical gardens, especially when you’re staying at a sustainable eco resort in Lombok. Nestled among coconut palms and frangipani trees, our boutique villa resort embraces responsible hospitality with one of the island’s most extraordinary yet quiet communities: our colony of stingless bees.
These tiny yet mighty creatures produce our signature ‘Lombok Liquid Gold’, a naturally crafted honey from native Trigona bees. With a delicate balance of sweet and tangy notes, this is not just honey, but a taste of Lombok’s wild nature bottled up—a little luxury born from patience, sunshine, and the gentle rhythm of island life.
The Art of Beekeeping at our Sustainable Eco Resort in Lombok
Beekeeping – or apiology – is one of the oldest arts in human & nature interaction, and perhaps one of the most beautiful. At our sustainable eco resort in Lombok, we honour this tradition through small-scale, low-impact beekeeping practices.
Within our lush resort gardens, dedicated in-house beekeepers manage the hives, harvest honey with precision, and protect these vital pollinators. These bees aren’t just honey-makers—they’re the quiet heroes of the island’s ecosystem. Without bees, many flowering plants and subsequently many of the foods we love, would struggle to exist. Supporting bee life means supporting the very balance of Lombok’s natural environment.
As our head beekeeper Nyoman often says:
“… Without Bees, There Would Be No Paradise …”
A Hands-On Bee Experience You’ll Never Forget
Curious to get up close and personal with Lombok’s bees at our sustainable eco resort in Lombok? We now offer an educational workshop called “The Fascinating World of Bees”—a 45-minute interactive experience ideal for curious travellers and families alike.
Guided by Nyoman and his team, you’ll observe our stingless Trigona bees in action, explore the inner workings of the hive, and learn how our prized honey—Lombok Liquid Gold—is created. Don’t worry—no protective gear is needed. Our Trigona bees are gentle and stingless, making this a safe and joyful activity for all ages.
It’s a memorable way to connect with nature, contribute to eco-friendly initiatives at our resort, and create meaningful holiday memories in Lombok.
Meet the Makers: Trigona Bees at the Heart of Our Resort
Our bottled luxury is made by the remarkable Trigona bees, small, stingless, and full of character. Unlike typical honeybees, they produce less honey but what they do produce is exceptionally rich in antioxidants, enzymes and nutrients.
Clepyaris (Yellow): Bright yellow markings, sweet-sour taste. Thrives in warm tropical climates.
Sapien (Black): Darker in colour, cooler climate niche, honey with deeper tangy richness.
The name Trigona originates from “Tri” (three) and “Gona” (benefit) and symbolises its threefold gift:
Social Benefit: Building community and supporting local beekeepers.
Health Benefit: Honey that boosts immunity, aids healing and supports wellness.
Economic Benefit: Sustaining local families and traditional beekeeping practices on Lombok.
Bringing Lombok Liquid Gold Home
How to Travel with Your Jar of Honey
Packing your honey safely from our sustainable eco resort in Lombok? Each jar is carefully wrapped in local protective paper and placed in a custom wooden box. This packaging is designed to look beautiful and ensure your honey reaches home intact—whether you’re flying or continuing island-hopping.
How to Store Your Honey at Home
Honey is one of nature’s most stable foods—it essentially never expires. To retain its quality: store your jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It doesn’t need refrigeration (though it’s fine if you do). If the honey crystallises, gently warm the sealed jar in a bowl of warm water to restore its liquid form. Either way, your Lombok Liquid Gold will be ready to drizzle over pancakes, toast, or enjoy straight from the spoon.
Supporting Local Communities Through Beekeeping
At our sustainable eco resort in Lombok, we operate about 30 hives on-site at our Bee Farm. Each hive yields around one litre of honey per year—not nearly enough to meet demand alone. That’s why we partner with small-scale Trigona farmers in neighbouring villages, purchasing their pure honey at fair prices. This collaboration does more than import product—it empowers the micro-economy, preserves the art of traditional beekeeping on Lombok island, and aligns with our resort’s sustainability ethos.
